Autumnal Colours

Wednesday 30 September 2015

top: asos jeans: topshop poncho: new look shoes: h&m divided

After a very productive and Uni work filled Saturday, my two housemates and I decided that we still wanted to go to London during our very first week back in the UK, even after our initial plans didn't work out due to too many classes and other Uni related events. All of us agreed that we should make the most of our last year in Brighton and pay more visits to London, because really, when will we ever be living this close to London again in our lives?
A few days before that, I went on a mini shopping trip in Brighton because I felt the desperate need of buying something that screams Autumn - definitely one of my favourite seasons along with Spring - and I (amongst other things) stumbled across this gorgeous poncho. A poncho's been on my wishlist for almost a year now but I somehow never bought one, often because the Topshop prices scared me away from doing so. It only added to my excitement when I found out that this New Look poncho was only £18 (plus a minor student discount) and the perfect colour to add to my Autumn wardrobe. I'm always a sucker for a good colour combination, so I naturally put together a very Autumnal look, combining all of the most beautiful colours at once: bordeaux, khaki and tan. With the good weather we've been having over here the past few days (*knocks on wood*), a poncho has been the perfect piece to throw on when it's a bit more chilly outside whilst it can still easily be carried on your arm or stuffed inside your bag, as its size is closer to a big scarf than a coat. Let's see how long it'll take me before I go back into New Look and get it in another colour...

Vegan Eats | Berlin: Açai Bowls & Vöner

Saturday 26 September 2015

food, vegan eats, vegan, vegetarian, daluma, açai bowl, acai bowl, health food, breakfast, müsli, smoothie, berlin, germany, food blogger
After having been to Berlin twice before this summer, I already knew of the endless choices of good places offering good food. Even though I wasn't vegan (yet) during both visits, I quickly realised that Berlin is probably one of the most vegan friendly and exciting cities when it comes to variety and taste of vegan options. As I have a total of four Vegan Eats to share with you from Berlin alone, I decided to pack two different cafés/restaurants into one post in order to avoid turning this blog into one big restaurant review (ha! As if it wasn't heading that way already).

Back to reality

Sunday 20 September 2015

After having been on the road for almost four weeks, hopping from one country to the other, my friends and I finally embarked on our last long journey home on Thursday afternoon. A journey we were already prepared to be very long was stretched even more due to Germany closing its borders because of the massive flows of refugees arriving in Europe and trying to enter Germany, which ended up in us changing from trains to buses and back to trains for hours on end, adding up to a journey of a total of 26 hours. Yesterday, I mainly did errands, unpacked and re-packed and avoided any other responsibilities connected to University. I'm flying back to the UK today, my first day of class is tomorrow and I'm already knee deep in preparatory work for next week's classes. I can already feel the load of work coming towards me that third year of University brings with it and I'm both looking forward to getting back into a routine and terrified of being almost done with my undergraduate degree at the same time.

Blogging wise, I took tons of pictures during my trip, a few of which will go towards outfits posts, quite a few Vegan Eats posts which I'll probably be combining in separate posts to avoid spamming the blog with only this category of posts and lots of photo diaries. Unfortunately, I found out that quite a lot of pictures I took were taken in a different setting than I usually use yesterday, which I didn't notice until I actually got to look at the photos on a laptop screen, so the quality varies.. Either I'll fix it a bit or we'll just have a bit of variety photo wise over the next few weeks when I'll be publishing photos and texts about my trip!

Bloopers #3

Thursday 17 September 2015

I enjoy collecting bloopers of outfit shots so much not only because they always end up making a great, silly and funny alternative to the typical outfit posts but because they remind us that we're all human beings with weird quirks. Or well, at least I am. That being said, I hope you have a little laugh with these pictures, featuring everything from awkward dance moves, mid shooting naps and general confusion.

Vegan Eats | New York City: Beyond Sushi

Monday 14 September 2015

While I already published a post on where to go for brunch or a bowl of feel-good-do-good food in New York City, I never actually got around sharing where I had sushi. As a huge sushi lover (at both pre-, and post-vegan times), I naturally had to give sushi in the Big Apple a shot, together with my friend and travel buddy, a sushi lover herself. Thanks to Cassey Ho from Blogilates, my friend saw an Instagram post from her posting about Beyond Sushi. It took us quite a while to actually find the restaurant itself, given the lack of orientation and wifi but we eventually found what turned out to be a tiny space filled to the brim with people sitting or standing around, waiting for their orders. Given the amount of people, it did take more than half an hour for our sushi to arrive at our table but after patiently waiting with grumbling stomachs, it tasted even better. I generally love the simplicity of avocado maki sushis, but having a bit of a more "fancy" combination of tastes was nice for a change, especially as different kinds of rice were used instead of the typical white sushi rice. The price was okay, given that you really could tell how much work was put into making the individual rolls. However, I would probably opt for take-out the next time, as nothing is better than a big portion of sushi and your favourite tv show, sitting in your couch at home (or that of the place where you're staying at because - let's be realistic - I unfortunately don't live in NYC (yet?))

PS: Beyond Sushi has more than one store/restaurant in NYC but this is the one we went to. For more information, have a look at their website.

Summer tunes

Friday 11 September 2015

Is it just me or those this remind anyone else of an ice cream sandwich? Oh Brighton, you always surprise me with your looks.

Whether I am on a fifteen minute bus ride or on a plane for eight hours, music is always at the very top of my list of things to have with me. Even driving without music annoys me. Since I'll be spending countless hours on trains and busses during my interrail trip, I've been looking through different Spotify lists and added a song to my library here or there. I haven't made a music post in a while on here, so I thought I could share some of my favourite songs of the moment - you've probably heard some or most of them already, as they've partly been played on the radio, but I always appreciate it when people share their music with me, so why not? Knowing myself, I'll constantly be trying to update my music library during my trip as I'll probably grow bored of my selection of songs quite quickly, after having listened to them over and over again, so if you have any suggestions for me, do leave them below!

Two in one

Tuesday 8 September 2015

shorts, blouse: h&m shoes: mango bag: / sunglasses: sixx

I love all things that can be used in more than one way, and even more so when it comes to clothes, shoes or bags. Already when I ordered these lace up sandals from Mango, I told myself that I could wear them as two different kinds of shoes: laced up, to get the gladiator sandal look that's been everywhere this summer or laced down, for a simpler, more basic sandal look. Being the comfort oriented person I am when it comes to what I wear, I probably got around wearing the sandals laced down more often than laced up, simply because I like to mainly move around my foot when I'm out and about and lacing them down has made life a bit easier by me not having to make sure the laces aren't sliding down after a while. Combined with loose beige shorts and a comfortable khaki blouse, it was the perfect outfit to have a stroll through the city with my friend before going for a brunch consisting of coffee and bagels.

Vegan Eats | Luxembourg: HaPP

Saturday 5 September 2015

As the amount of health food oriented, vegetarian or even vegan restaurants and cafés has been increasing in the last year/year and a half in Luxembourg, I only heard of HaPP a bit later. From what I've been able to observe, its focus is on health food (catering to everyone from omnivore to vegan) and tasty treats.

SUMMER READS

Tuesday 1 September 2015

Ever since I started doing English Literature as part of my degree at University two years ago, reading books has turned into more of an obligation than the hobby it used to be for me. From a young age on, all I did was read, read, read and my mum often more or less seriously complained about my constant need for new books ruining her. However, when I started Uni and had to read a different book for class almost every week, it turned into something more tedious than enjoyable. Don't get me wrong, I've read a lot of books which I enjoyed during the two years of my course so far, but even I liked the book I was reading at that moment, knowing that I should finish it by a specific day often took the pleasure out of actually reading it.
