VEGAN EATS | VegFest Brighton

Sunday 29 March 2015

Today was finally the day my housemates and I had been looking forward to for weeks: it was the second day of the VegFest weekend in Brighton! I chose to eat a vegan diet (and pursue a vegan lifestyle as good as possible as well) not only for ethical and environmental reasons, but also for health. That being said, it's safe to say that I rarely eat what is considered vegan junk food and my diet mainly consists of whole foods, meaning lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and nuts. However, being the little foodie I am, I do love to indulge in a big piece of vegan cake or a pizza with vegan cheese every now and then. Obviously, the VegFest was the ideal occasion for me to let my inner fatty out (as tumblr would call it: an unchaperoned kid at a birthday party) and indulge on all kinds of foods, healthy and not so healthy because, I could for once eat everything on offer! My housemates and I ate ourselves through the food stalls, trying everything from hot dogs, burgers, curries, raw chocolate cakes, fried plantains, crêpes and just about every taster on offer. I also finally got to try a young coconut for the first time and oh my! I'm obsessed with it and brought the coconut home to get all out of the flesh out of it. I had a great time eating my weight in food, buying chocolates for my family and buying cruelty free, vegan shampoo and I really hope that this event will take place again next year! (I mean, if you ask me, this could be happening once a month, ha)
I found out that this event takes place all over the UK, so if this is something you're interested in, definitely check it out - no matter if you're vegan yourself or not as I can definitely say that everyone I talked to (mostly non-vegans) enjoyed it a lot!

PS: I've shared quite a few impressions of my day on my snapchat and generally have been more active recently, so if you want to have a bit of an insight on my life, add me under noraameliie!

Ever since I ordered these snake print shoes back in January, they've been sitting in my room, waiting to me taken outside. Unfortunately, the weather has been awfully cold (luckily quite sunny though) and I simply can't get myself to wear shoes without socks at the moment, especially on days where I want to walk to or from Uni. However, when I thought what to combine my new blouse and jeans (yes, I finally got white jeans!!) with which I got a few weeks ago, I thought it was about time to also show these beautiful shoes! I can't wait to wear them more often once it gets sliiightly warmer, as my feet did get a bit cold today. I'd also had the idea of getting white jeans forever now but somehow never actually bought any, so I'm more than happy about that addition to my wardrobe. So far, I've worn them with denim shirts or flannels or occasionally a striped top but I'm still looking for more ways to combine them - any ideas?

VEGAN PASTA RECIPE | Pasta with Lentil & Zucchini Curry

Sunday 22 March 2015

A couple of days ago, I posted a picture of my lunch on Instagram and Facebook and asked if any of you would be interested in the recipe for it. I got a few "yes!" answers, so I cooked it again, took a prettier picture (duh) and I can now share this tasty recipe with you! Bear in mind that lentils are super filling, so you might have to experiment with how much pasta you want to make, as I once made too little and once made too much pasta, haha! Enough blabbering now, let's make some food...

Current Favourites

Monday 16 March 2015

Açai smoothies/bowls. Ever since I tried my first açai smoothie a little while ago, I completely fell in love with it and all I've been wanting to eat/drink were smoothies with açai. Açai is a berry from Brazil which is said to have tons of antioxidants and a caffeine-like behaviour, only that it's released more slowly, avoiding the 'crash' some might know to have after having coffee (I know I tend to have that quite often) Most importantly, it tastes super tasty and I automatically eat/drink more fruit because of it, so what's not to love? I found a cheaper way to get açai powder by buying it on Amazon instead of a shop here in Brighton, so this has been my breakfast pretty much every day for a while now!

Backyard

Friday 13 March 2015

skirt, bag: primark shirt: sheinside shoes: zara

I'm not typically the kind of person to take outfit pictures in a more 'natural' environment (gardens, parks, etc) as I always feel that you get more out of taking pictures in cities, even if I'm basically standing in the middle of a street, hoping not to get run over. However, my housemate wore the prettiest velvet dress to take pictures and the wall in our garden was the perfect backdrop for her. I ended up taking my pictures there as well because the lighting was just so pretty! I love how soft the colours feel, which is quite unusual when you compare these pictures to my other outfit pictures.
My main focus of this outfit was to show you this gooorgeous little handbag I bought in Primark for only £8! I tend to have a love-hate relationship with Primark as I often buy things I don't really need or want, simply because they're cheap, but at the same time, I still find little treasures like my pastel blue coat or this bag every now and then. I find that it looks quite expensive and classy and even though it's small, I can fit all my stuff in it - what more could a girl want? Have you made any awesome bargains/finds recently?

Current favourite Youtubers

Sunday 8 March 2015

I'm the kind of person who will be completely obsessed with a couple of Youtubers and watch their videos one after the other and then not watch any videos for weeks. I am currently in the phase of watching new videos more or less frequently and I thought that I could share 3 of my current favourite Youtubers with you. Surprisingly, (or not?) only one of the 3 I mention in this post have their main focus on fashion, while the others are more lifestyle/food (and fashion) based. Some may be more known than others, but I still thought that I should make a small post out of this. Do you have any favourites at the moment? Do leave a comment with suggestions!

That Camel Coat

Friday 6 March 2015

coat: camden town shoes: zara jeans: topshop

If you've been following my blog for a little while now, you'll know that a camel coat is something I'd been lusting for for quite a while now (1-2 years!) but never actually found at a decent price. When I spent the weekend with my mum when she came to visit 3 weeks ago, we went up to London for a day and had a stroll through Camden Town. And there I saw it: my future camel coat - for £20! I love that it's flowy and a lot less structured than my other coats and it's super big, which makes it great to snuggle yourself up inside of it when the weather isn't the friendliest. No matter what I wear it with, I instantly feel more ladylike and classy, especially when I add some heels! I've practically been living in it over the last couple of days and I really hope that I can even wear it on a summer evening, even though I'll have to check how warm I'll actually be in it once the temperatures go up.

PS: I'm so so happy about all the feedback I got on my recent post! You guys are the best

10 FACTS ABOUT THE VEGAN DIET

Tuesday 3 March 2015

As the interest in the vegan diet (and lifestyle) seems to be getting stronger and stronger over the last year or so and I feel great eating a plantbased diet, I thought I'd do a bit of a different post today and share 10 facts about the vegan diet! These facts only revolve around the idea of not eating animal products, so they do not include facts about a vegan lifestyle in general (like not buying non-food related animal by-products like leather, wool, etc. either) I just thought these were interesting to share - what are your thoughts on this subject?

March Inspiration

While I spent most of the last few days doing Uni work, February slowly started waving goodbye and March popped around the corner today... I'm still surprised that we're now already in the third month of 2015. Thinking about the new month lying ahead, I found myself to think further than March. I'll mainly be busy with Uni the next few weeks but I'll also have my dad visit me in a week, which I'm super excited about and I'll hopefully be going to London again as well. Thinking further ahead, I unfortunately won't be able to go on my favourite holiday with my family (crappy University holiday schedule...) but I've organised a trip to a place I've been dreaming to visit for years now.. can you guess where I'll be flying in May? I'm generally happy about all the sunshine we've been seeing here in Brighton over the last week or two and am hoping for more and more sunshine, as it really does brighten my mood and allows me to walk more! I also had my first ever Açai smoothie today and I'm still over the moon by how delicious it was and planning to buy Açai to make my own smoothies and bowls at home.
