Growing up, crèpes made up a huge part of the food I ate, whether that'd be after a stroll through the neighbour town with my mum and brother, during our countless family trips to the French Bretagne or the times when my dad made a savoury and sweet crêpe lunch for us and my brother and I battled each other, seeing who could devour a 7th, 8th or 9th crèpe without becoming nauseous. To me, crêpes (and pancakes) are the easiest food to veganise. Skip the eggs and cow's milk and use soy milk and baking powder instead, add mashed banana or chia/flax seed to the batter if you're feeling adventurous and you're good to go. However, vegan crêpes or pancakes, including savoury ones, are something I find is lacking in the food industry. It's no secret that I'm an avid lover of Champs' thick, fluffy American pancakes, but it's been forever since I had a crêpe with tasty fillings. When I found out about the Little Choc Apothecary, "NYC's first 100% vegan crêperie", I immediately added it to my list of food places to go to during my second stay in New York. At the Little Choc Apothecary, you can find plenty of savoury crêpes with fillings ranging from scrambled tofu to pesto and coconut bacon (which I'm still upset I didn't try) and a whole list of sweet toppings to put together your own dessert crêpe. My friend and I had a crêpe with a mushroom, spinach and walnut filling and one with their homemade seitan, kale and roasted vegetables and wouldn't stop making "mmmmmhh" sounds for half an hour. For dessert, we shared a crêpe with banana, their homemade Nutella and salted caramel syrup. All of their crêpes are gluten free, which I thought was also great, as they can be enjoyed by even more people! I also had a fantastic coconut matcha latte, which made my experience there even more perfect.

PS: If you need yet another reason to eat there, it looks like you might run into Penn Badgley drawing something on the restaurant's walls!?
